Hip Hop d’Oc – 2017 Selle Français gelding – by Canturo out of Allegro Fontaine – 1.78 m – Show Jumping / Eventing / All-round
Hip Hop d’Oc is a Selle Français gelding born in 2017, standing approximately 1.78 m tall, offering a particularly attractive prospect for an amateur rider seeking an experienced, versatile horse with good jumping ability.
With a large frame, good balance and plenty of spirit, Hip Hop is a willing and pleasant horse under saddle. He already has experience in amateur competition and has competed on courses ranging from 1.10 m to 1.30 m and above.
The aim now is to gradually bring him back to courses around 1.10 m, a level at which he will be perfectly suited to an amateur rider. With an experienced rider, his ability also means he could compete in 1.20 m / 1.30 m classes.
Sired by Canturo out of Jade des Vernières (by Allegro Fontaine), he boasts recognised sporting pedigree and presents an attractive profile for both show jumping and a versatile or eventing programme.
Over jumps
Hip Hop has genuine experience over jumps and knows exactly what he’s doing.
He has competed at:
1.10 m courses,
1.20 m courses,
1.30 m and higher courses,
amateur-level competitions.
He is now gradually being brought back into competition at 1.10 m, before the rest of his programme is adapted to the objectives and ability of his future rider.
With an experienced rider, he has the potential to compete at 1.20 m / 1.30 m once again.
His experience and abilities make him an attractive prospect for an amateur looking for a horse with genuine sporting potential, without necessarily aiming to push him to his full potential straight away.
On the flat
Hip Hop is not limited to show jumping. He also has a solid foundation in dressage and has already mastered the basics of classical dressage.
In particular, he has mastered:
shoulders-in,
the half-pass,
leg changes,
lateral work,
the basics of the ‘basse école’.
This flatwork training is a real asset due to its versatility and also paves the way for a career in eventing.
Temperament & daily life
Under saddle, Hip Hop is easy to ride, willing, well-balanced and spirited.
He would be ideally suited to a confident amateur rider who knows horses well, or possibly to a less experienced rider provided they receive proper guidance.
On the lead, Hip Hop can be impatient and requires someone who knows how to set boundaries. Hand-leading work is carried out with this in mind. It would therefore be preferable for him to be entrusted to someone who already has some experience of handling horses on a day-to-day basis.
He is also:
accustomed to travelling,
clipped on his body, though extra care is needed around his head and legs,
used to going out alone or accompanied outdoors,
accustomed to living in the field,
and is also familiar with life in a stable and a paddock.
He enjoys going outside
What sort of project?
Hip Hop would be particularly suitable for:
an amateur rider who knows horses and wishes to progress in show jumping,
an amateur rider under supervision looking for an experienced horse,
a rider wishing to gradually return to jumping 1.10 m,
a more experienced rider wishing to make the most of their horse’s abilities at 1.20 m / 1.30 m,
for an eventing project,
a rider looking for a versatile horse with a solid foundation on the flat and genuine experience over jumps.
Hip Hop is an interesting horse for someone who will appreciate his energy and provide him with a consistent daily routine. Under saddle, he offers the experience and ability needed to build a promising amateur competitive programme.
