    DRESSAGE HORSE FOR SALE – 2017-BORN STALLION – PALOMINO – 1.63 m

    Lagarto A is an elegant Purebred Spanish Stallion born in 2017 in Spain, standing approximately 1.63 m tall and boasting a remarkable, genetically confirmed palomino coat.

    With a commanding presence, energy and a lovely sensitivity, Lagarto is a willing and expressive horse, particularly suited to a rider seeking a partner with spirit, personality and a genuine connection with humans.

    At 9 years old, he has a solid foundation in dressage and has been trained progressively. His versatility makes him suitable for amateur dressage, recreational riding, work on the lead and in freedom, as well as for breeding.

    In work

    Lagarto now has a solid foundation on the flat and has mastered, in particular:

    Shoulders in;

    Support;

    Leg yields;

    Proficient lateral work;

    Basic dressage skills.

    Eager and responsive to aids, he responds well to precise and consistent riding. However, his sensitivity and temperament require an experienced, calm and steady rider, capable of guiding him accurately as he continues to develop.

    He has not yet competed, thus giving his future rider the opportunity to gradually build up his competitive experience in line with the planned programme.

    Pedigree, genetics & breeding

    Lagarto A is a PRE (Pura Raza Española) stallion born on 10 January 2017 in Spain, bred by Ganadería Antares S.L.

    Sire: Gentil A
    Dam: Buscona VI

    His palomino coat colour is genetically confirmed and officially recorded in his ANCCE documents.

    His coat colour genetic profile has been tested by the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory – UC Davis:

    Red Factor: e/e;

    Agouti: A/A;

    Cream: N/Cr;

    Pearl: N/N;

    Silver: N/N;

    Dun: nd1/nd2;

    Champagne: N/N;

    Grey: absent.

    Lagarto therefore carries one copy of the Cream gene (N/Cr). He can therefore pass on this allele to 50 per cent of his offspring.

    He is also a non-carrier of the grey gene.

    Lagarto is registered in the PRE studbook. His ANCCE passport includes his registration in the Registro de Reproductores as well as his genetic identification.

    His status as a breeding stallion, combined with his genetically confirmed palomino coat colour, is an added advantage for a breeding programme seeking a PRE stallion with identified colour genetics.

    Work on the ground & in freedom

    Beyond his work under saddle, Lagarto has extensive experience in groundwork, free work and connecting with humans.

    He moves freely alongside his rider, follows movements and changes of direction, and, notably, responds to a whistle from a distance: even when he is at the far end of the arena, he is accustomed to returning when called.

    He is attentive:

    To voice commands;

    To the whistle;

    To body language.

    A specific stop and recall signal has also been introduced using a tongue click (‘cloc’), to which he has been trained to stop or return to his owner.

    He also knows various exercises involving mobilisation and yielding to pressure:

    Jaw release;

    Shoulder mobilisation;

    Hip mobilisation;

    Yielding to pressure at the chest to achieve a backward movement;

    Yielding to pressure in the neck to encourage forward movement.

    When worked in hand, using a lunge line and whip, Lagarto also performs a fine Spanish walk, with a clear and significant lift of the forelegs. The coordination between the lift and the forward movement still needs refining.

    He also knows the basics of the Spanish walk in free work, as well as the beginning of the campo, two exercises he is still learning.

    Desensitisation & obstacle work

    Regular work has also been carried out on desensitisation and managing emotions when faced with various stimuli and unfamiliar objects.

    In particular, Lagarto has been exposed to:

    Tarpaulins;

    Flags;

    Umbrellas;

    Balloons;

    Buoys.

    He also shows initiative when faced with difficulties on the ground and unusual situations.

    In particular, he is willing to:

    To enter a solarium;

    To move through narrow passageways and corridors;

    Climbing stairs;

    To walk along steep paths;

    To go up and down terraced fields.

    He therefore already has a particularly well-developed walking training, with a wide range of skills acquired whilst off-lead, including recall, control of different body parts, desensitisation and navigating obstacles, whilst still having room for improvement in the more technical exercises.

    Temperament & day-to-day life

    Lagarto is an energetic horse under saddle, yet easy to handle in day-to-day situations.

    In particular, he is:

    Easy to groom;

    Accustomed to being transported;

    Easy to clip;

    Accustomed to living in a paddock;

    Able to go out on his own or accompanied;

    Handled regularly.

    Although he is an uncastrated stallion, he has previously lived in a paddock alongside a pony.

    Lagarto will thrive particularly well with a stable, calm and caring person who respects horses and wishes to develop refined and precise work, particularly focusing on biomechanics, connection and how the horse functions.

    What kind of project is he suited to?

    Lagarto would be particularly suited to:

    An experienced amateur rider with proper supervision;

    A rider who appreciates refined, sensitive and spirited horses;

    For someone interested in groundwork and free work;

    An amateur dressage project;

    A recreational riding project with a versatile horse;

    For a PRE breeding project.

    It will be better suited to someone seeking a genuine bond with their horse, wishing to invest in its progress and continue the work already undertaken, rather than a rider looking solely for a horse that is fully trained.
