Description
JERRY ALTON VOILAC
Jerry is a tall, 7-year-old Haflinger gelding with full pedigree (1.53m). He is an extremely gentle, endearing pony, perfectly trained and very close to people.
Having been trained with a focus entirely on animal welfare, calmness and respect for the horse’s natural rhythm, Jerry is a sensitive and responsive companion. Very playful and energetic in the pasture, he needs to live in a herd with other ponies of his own age. A hardy pony, he requires no special dietary supplements.
Training, Work & Ethological Monitoring:
Jerry is monitored on a daily basis by a qualified professional ethologist (who also had him in training boarding for several weeks). His entire training has been centred on achieving relaxation, understanding and consent.
As a former club pony, he knows the basics of arena work and is making excellent progress on the lead. With a keen awareness of his surroundings, he is very attentive. When faced with something new, Jerry does not get overexcited or run away: he expresses his discomfort by losing concentration or freezing, and quickly regains his composure in a caring and reassuring environment.
He would be perfect for a gentle, experienced rider (or one with supervision) wishing to build a relationship based on trust and rapport.
Health & Medical Transparency:
As part of this ongoing focus on his wellbeing and in order to thoroughly analyse the root cause of his reactions, I decided to carry out a specialist veterinary check-up in 2026 (X-rays of the back and a thorough ophthalmological examination), on the advice of my ethologist, to complement the pre-purchase examination carried out in 2025.
All reports will be provided to the prospective buyer in a fully transparent manner:
Vision: Stable bilateral anterior cortical cataracts (very slow progression). This explains his sensitivity to light or certain noises, which is very easily managed on a day-to-day basis (earplugs/cotton wool, a hat, or a noseband cover if needed).
Back: Mild thoracolumbar arthropathy (T17 to L2). Requires a suitable and regular back-strengthening exercise programme.
Feet & Blood Tests: Healthy feet; blood tests and serological tests (Lyme disease, piroplasmosis, etc.) 100 per cent negative.
Jerry has a huge heart and remarkable potential to offer to a caring and attentive owner who will be able to continue this work whilst respecting his sensitivity.
Jerry has enormous potential and a genuine kindness to offer to a caring, attentive and experienced owner who will be able to give him the time he deserves.
